On July 11th through the 16th; Tahoe’s South Shore becomes inundated with a different type of tourist to its shores: The valued and prestigious players in the 2018 American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament. In the past; the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Lance Armstrong, Michael Jordan, and Justin Timberlake (to name a few) have been some of the big-name participants in this annual event.

The event this year is the 29th Annual and is broadcast Nationwide by NBC Sports. The tournament itself is a 54-hole modified Stableford Format. Golf, sports, celebrity, and outdoor aficionados alike will all find something to enjoy about this annual event. There is something to love for everyone! A way that locals and visitors alike choose to enjoy the event is by boat anchored right in front of Edgewoods’ pristine shores itself. Be sure to bring your binoculars!

This year, there is much excitement being generated as the host; Edgewood Tahoe, has unveiled the Grand Opening for their new hotel, “The Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe,” which just opened for the Summer 2017 Season and featuring a spa, restaurant, and those stunning blue views of the Jewel of the Sierra that we all know as Lake Tahoe.

This tournament understandably brings much excitement and bravado to the South Shore of Tahoe; but what many people may not know is that this event is a major purveyor of a charity called The Stowers Institute for Medical Research. Since the Tournament’s inception in 1990; the event has generated 4.6 MILLION for this charity as well as: The Uniformed Firefighters Association Scholarship Fund, Fallen Patriot Fund, The Lake Tahoe Fire Relief Fund, and Boys & Girls Clubs of America. For more information about the charity organizations and how the Celebrity Golf Tournament plays a role as a supporter of these organizations; click here.

So get those binoculars and tickets ready, and shine up those golf shoes and get out there and enjoy Tahoe’s biggest event of the year! As always, be safe and leave no trace.
